What is a CVV2?
CVV2 numbers are included on all Visa, Mastercard and American Express credit cards is the last 5 years. They are provided as an extra security measure to help prevent fraud. The CVV2 number is not part of your regular credit card number, so anyone who has only your credit card number cannot guess your CVV2. Visa and Mastercard print the CVV2 number on the back of the card on the signature strip. Depending on the card you will see either the full 16-digit card number plus an extra three digits separated by a space, or you will see only a three-digit number. That three-digit number is the CVV2 (see the diagram below).
American Express CVV2
American Express cards print a four-digit number above the last digits of your card number (see the diagram below). That four-digit number is the CVV2 number.
